Pergesa acteus
Distribution:
from India and Sri Lanka east to Japan and the Philippines. South via Thailand to Indonesia.
Wingspan:
6,5 to 8 cm
Season:
in captivity continuously
Food plants:
many species of Araceae (Dieffenbachia, Alocasia, Colocasia, Zantedeschia, Arum, ...), Vitaceae (Leea, Cissus, Parthenocissus, Vitis), also Begonia, Commelina and more
Rearing:
An easy and very fast growing species, suitable for newcomers. Caterpillars can remain in well ventilated plastic containers in all stages and tolerate company quite well. Still, do not overcrowd. This species requires large amounts of leaves when older so watch out for condensation when reared in a plastic container. Never give wet leaves. An average living room temperature is fine, however somewhat warmer makes them grow faster. They are fully grown within 3 to 4 weeks. The pupal stage is equally short (2 to 3 weeks when kept warm).
