Distribution:

West and Central Africa, from Sierra Leone and Senegal to Congo (RDC)  and south to Angola. The animals depicted here originate from la Forêt de Missahohe near Kpalime (Togo)

Wingspan:

8 to 10 cm

Season:

in captivity more are less continuously. 

Food plants:

Best on Salix caprea or Salix cinerea. 

Rearing:

Suitable for newcomers, though a minimum of experience is required. Keep in spacious, well ventilated plastic containers.  When older in netted cages. Watch out for condensation and do not give wet leaves. Make sure the food is clean and fresh.  Tolerant of a wide range of temperatures as long as it does not become too cool (minimum living room temperature). The caterpillars are ready to pupate within 4 to 6 weeks (faster during warmer months). The pupal stage is usually only a few weeks to a month.
