The Tolype genus is present in a large part of the Americas, from Canada to South America. The exact number of species is still somewhat uncertain. I have found references for 101 Tolype in the Catalogue of Life, but some may very well be synonyms. Most species, especially those from South America are poorly studied. Rearing them will most certainly contribute to a better knowledge of these small to medium sized Lappets.
