Pseudometa sp. Malawi

 

Distribution:

this might be an undescribed species, so the distribution remains unknown. The female was taken the first week of January 2024, in the Dzalanyama Forest (Malawi)

Wingspan:

small, in between 3 (males) and 4 cm (females)

Season:

multiple flights when kept warm. 

Food plants:

wild host remains unknown. Accepting Quercus (ilex) without any hesitation in captivity

Rearing:

An easy species. Keep warm and clean, in well ventilated plastic containers (just watch out for condensation).  Fast growing and ready to pupate within 7 weeks. The pupal stage in between flights is short (approximately 2 to 3  weeks). The warmer the faster they develop.
