Neopolyptychus

The seven species in the Neopolyptychus genus occur throughout a large part of Sub-Saharan Africa. The medium sized hawk moths are all fairly similar looking, brown or grey(ish), and not the most attractive or spectacular. Some of them, like compar, can be locally abundant after rains.

The green caterpillars are equally boring, although they do represent somewhat of a challenge finding suitable food plants when receiving eggs in the middle of the winter.
