The 18 Ludia species all occur in sub-Saharan Africa. These medium to smaller sized moths belong to the Micragonini tribe within the Saturniinae subfamily. The caterpillars are hairy and will spin a cocoon to pupate.

The rearing is not difficult if you can find the food plant. Basil (Ocimum) works for quite many species within this genus.
