The 7 Imbrasia species occur throughout Africa. The eight species, forda, is now placed in a separate genus (Cirina).

The most difficult part of rearing Imbrasia species is to obtain fresh livestock. Most species are not offered regularly (with the exception of obscura and epimethea which are available more often). Imbrasia species do not make a cocoon.
