The sixteen Pachytrina species occur in tropical forests of West and Central Africa, from Ivory Coast to Uganda and south to Angola, Congo and Tanzania. All members of this genus are medium to large sized moths.

Pachytrina species are fun to rear. The social caterpillars can be kept in large groups and grow not only fast, but also quite large. Rosaceae seem again the better choice of food plant.
